프로그램 설명 

1996년 첫 개최 이후, 캐나다 몬트리올의 판타지아 국제영화제(Fantasia International Film Festival)는 북미에서 가장 크고 중요한 상상력 기반의 영화제 중 하나로 꾸준히 성장해왔습니다. 전 세계에서 선보이는 판타지, 공포, 액션, 코미디, 뮤지컬, SF, 애니메이션 등 다양한 장르의 최고 작품들을 찾는 10만명 이상의 관객을 모으고 있으며 매년 세계적인 국제 매체들로부터 주목받고 있습니다. (Fantasia2024-Media-05.pdf)

1998년 강제규 감독의 <은행나무 침대> 상영을 계기로 한국영화가 중요한 영화제 프로그램의 일환으로 자리잡게 되었습니다. 봉준호, 박찬욱, 김지운 등 세계적인 감독들의 작품을 한국영화 뉴웨이브 초기부터 소개하고, 

류승완, 연상호, 장준환 등 대한민국 대표 감독들의 데뷔작을 처음으로 선보이며 한국영화의 세계화를 이끄는 선구적인 역할을 해왔습니다. 

영화제의 열정적인 프로그래밍 팀은 앞으로도 한국 장르 영화의 최신작과 최고작을 가리지 않고 소개하며 널리 알리는데 전념할 것입니다. 판타지아 국제영화제는 한국영화 감독들에게 출품을 권장하며 아래 출품 가이드와 최근 몇 년간 영화제에서 수상한 한국영화 목록(KoBiz - Korean Film Biz Zone)을 참고하시기 바랍니다.

Film Festival Description 

Since its debut edition in 1996, Montreal, Canada's Fantasia International FIlm Festival has steadily grown to become the biggest and most important festival of imaginative cinema in North America. Lasting 18 days each summer, Fantasia attracts an audience of over 100,000, hugry for the best in a wide range of genres like fantasy, horror, action, comedy, musicals, sciece fiction, and animation from all over the world. Every year Fantasia receives an impressive amount of international media coverage from prestigious international publications.(Fantasia2024-Media-05.pdf)

Films from South Korea have been an essential part of Fantasia's programming since 1998 when the festival screened Kang Jekyu's GINGKO BED. The festival has been among the world leaders in showcasing South Kkorean cinema since premiering films by Bong Joon-ho, Park Chan-wook, Kim Ji-woon and many more early in the so-called Korean new wave of cinema. Fantasia introduced the debut film of top filmmakers from the Republic of Korea, such as Ryoo Seung-wan, Yeun Sang-ho and Jang Joon-hwan, who all visited Fantasia early in their career. 

The festival's enthusiastic programming team is eager to contunue celebrating the newest and best works in South Korean genre cinema, both live-action and animated, features, mid length and short films.
